Presidential Debate Comes to Mesa

Yesterday, Tuesday the 21st of February, I went across the street to the Mesa Arts Center to see the setup for the Republican Presidential Debate. I wanted to make sure that today, the 22nd of February, my digital imaging class could walk thru the common areas and see behind the scenes of what it takes to put on a National Presidential Debate forum.

Yesterday I was told that the common outside areas would be available to the public and that the class was invited. It was interesting to see how the entire Arts Center had been cleaned and prepped for the CNN sponsored debate. The colored gravel was groomed and every glass panel had been washed. Even the stainless steel water troughs were polished with metal cleaner. I even saw 2 City of Mesa employees polishing the new plastic garbage bins.

There was great signage.. CNN Republican Presidential Debate, CNN 2012 GOP Debates, etc. I was hoping that the class could have their photos taken in front of this for a once in a lifetime historic photo.
Today, after prepping the class for etiquette, we walked across the closed, empty street to view the setup. We first found the City of Mesa Police and are told that the closest that we can see is from behind the ‘protesters’ barriers. Great. Put on a telephoto lens and get a photo of the tree.

We walked all around the Arts Center. We watched the Secret Service securing the area. We watched the bomb sniffing dog and all the police everywhere. We saw all the news station vans with their satellite up links ready to broadcast.

The thought occurred to me, here we are setting up all this infrastructure for 4 GOP candidates to represent us. But we put together this big production and we can’t even get a ticket to go. The event is by invitation only. It’s like the candidates are having this big birthday party, we get to provide all the presents, the entertainment and the venue. But you are not invited to go to the party. The lunatics are running the insane asylum.

I believe that elected officials need to be reminded who pays for their lifestyle.

All dressed up and no where to go.

The first time I’ll be able to vote on an election is coming up, and I need to learn about my candidates before I can feel comfortable voting. An ignorant vote is worse than not voting at all, and I won’t vote unless I fully understand what I’m putting on my ballot box. Maybe it’s just me, but I think if more people did this we would be better off right now, as a nation and as a people.

What is acceptable on the day called “Dollars for Duds”

Yep, here we are again. Buy the right to wear our own clothes. I affectionately call this day skank day. There is no reason for anyone to look bad. On regular days when you have to wear a uniform, you can blame the reason that you don’t look good on the uniforms…’they make me look fat’…. etc.
I actually had one young scholar come to class in a tank top. Did he reveal this when he was paying his money for the dollars for duds? How honest is this?

Today, you can’t blame anyone for not looking good. And by the way, torn jeans are not allowed.
More than anything, it is important to know that if you as students continue to push the envelope and see what you can get away with one Dollars for Duds, soon it will be gone. As teachers it is embarrassing to tell a student they are inappropriately dressed.
We shouldn’t have to. By now you know the rules. You know the handbook. You have signed an agreement to adhere to those rules. If you as students do not adhere to those rules and make this day what it was supposed to be, it will soon be gone.

Big arrest at the Circle K

On the way to work this morning I stopped at my usual Circle K convenience store to purchase my small Diet Coke and my half donut. I noticed outside that there was a police officer.
This particular Circle K is a place where illegals from south of America stand around on the sidewalks and hope to get day labor.
So, this place is surrounded by illegals and I find that the only person getting arrested and taken away in handcuffs is an old, white American citizen who was asking for a handout for his daily needs.
This country has lost it. We are arresting the wrong people.

Gone are the days of idle leisure, huge sunglasses, late night movies and swimming. Hello to school, books, math…and homework.

School starts August 11th this year and ends May 26th. Bring on the learning!

Well, here it is. Officially the last Tuesday of my tenth grade year. I’m sort of sad, but at the same time I feel like screaming for joy. This year has been by far the best school year out of my entire school career! I have met so many new friends that I probably wouldn’t have met if it hadn’t been for Miranda Gray…and art class

I’ve learned a ton and really finally understood the meaning of the word STRESS for the first time. Tenth grade is WONDERFUL, but ninth graders, look out. The stress can eat you alive!

I also got to have Mrs. Lowther as a teacher for the first time this year! She’s amazing! I’m surprised I actually liked her class, because I am NOT a science buff by any means.

Thank you so much to everyone who made this year amazing! I will miss you all and I hope you have a fantastic summer!!! See you all next year!

Say goodbye to my freshman high school year!

It’s the end of the year and I have tons of gifts to hand out *sigh*

I can’t believe that my freshman year passed right before my eyes just as much as I can’t believe that I moved to Arizona only three years ago. How time flies….

I still remember how scared I was of this school and how I said I would hate it, I would hate it and love Dobson (my old school in Chandler) forever….boy was I wrong.

Not that I don’t still remember Dobson but Heritage is different and better in my opinion now that I have had the opportunity to realize that. I thought Heritage would be full of academic competition and contests but it’s not. It has plenty of academic challenges but not in a competitive nature such as my old school. Kind of relieves the tension a bit. Plus it’s such a fun and…weird school, you can’t help but fall in love with it!

Dogs in Clothes

I’m trying to decide how I feel about the whole “dogs in clothes” business. One part of me thinks “Oh, they must be cold. And look at what a cute sweater that is! Perhaps the sweater will make them warm despite the gatrillion tons of fur they already have.” Of course, the other half of me says “OMG can that thing even breathe? It’s in a DOGGY BIKINI!!! There is something so wrong with that!”

I see old ladies walking their little poodle rat things, and the poodles look like they’re showing an odd flash of pride at their tutus as they prance around the sidewalk. However, I am sure that if they ever came into contact with a normal dog, perhaps one wearing nothing but its fur, as is nature’s custom, the poodle would hide its face in shame.

I do have to say though that a little piece of me thinks dogs in clothes are kind of cute. They remind me of glamor, probably from growing up underneath the looming shadow of Paris Hilton and her chihuahua who’s clothes were more expensive than mine.

I’m not sure how I feel about it…well, whatever floats your boat, people.
